Rainbow Lorrikeet
Trichoglossus haematodus

A native of the east coast, this bird has now established itself in plague proportions in the Perth area. This is proving to be an environmental disaster as it is such an aggressive bird that it takes away nesting sites from local birds and drives them away from their food sources.

The bird was let loose from aviaries in the Crawley area in the early 60's by some irresponsible individuals who did not like birds in aviaries.Their actions have proved to be extremely detrimental to our local birds and the problem worsens each year.
